The Electrum Model E is the second cutting-edge creation from Silicon Valley, featuring excellent durability and balanced construction. It is the go-to paddle for many pros on the PPA and MLP tours. This paddle features an elongated shape and a 16mm core that allows for excellent touch and extended reach at the kitchen. The Model E features a RAW Toray T700 carbon fiber to provide a gritty face surface for excellent spin. The core is made from a single cell of polypropylene honeycomb, providing a large sweet spot and consistency in feel across the paddle. The handle features a moisture resistant genuine leather grip for comfort and feel.

Pros

  • Excellent control
  • Decent Spin
  • Good handle length
  • Rough carbon fiber face provides good grip
  • Excellent Slow Game

Cons

  • Lacks power
  • Heavy for a paddle lacking power

Electrum's popularity has been rising, and the company is taking its time perfecting its paddles. Most companies seem to release a few new paddle designs each year, but Electrum takes a more methodical approach. This is the second paddle design they've come up with. One of the best men's doubles players in the world, Collin Johns, uses this paddle.

Here is my assessment of the Electrum Model E's functionality after I used it for extensive drilling and experimentation for a few weeks

Performance

Thanks to the Model E's comfortable softness, I was able to get a good grip on it right away. It lacks lively off-the-face play, but it absorbs hits well and allows for fine regulation of the game. As a result of its greater mass and T700 carbon face, its elongated shape was exceptionally forgiving. This is one of my favorite paddles, regardless of length, because of how well it feels, how forgiving it is, and how stable it is when used to control the ball.

From the baseline and the transition zone, I felt like I had a good handle on the game. With this paddle in my hands, I was able to play more consistently from those positions. I've found that the longer the paddle, the less forgiving it is, but that wasn't the case with this one. This resulted in fewer misfires when dinking or blocking, an advantage over similarly shaped objects.

It has the swing weight to drive through the ball on high putts, but struggles with shorter swings and other shots. However, its medium to high spin rating boosts your attacking accuracy, making it a more effective weapon.

Although, when I held it, it did feel a bit heavy and slow. There were times when I lagged behind in volley exchanges, and I wasn't much better when I had to scramble. The limited customization options are another drawback. The paddle is only available in one size and weight.

Paddle Design

This paddle has a classic long shape (16.5" x 7.5") and a handle that is 5.25" long. The length of the handle is longer so that you can shoot with both hands and so that you can get more leverage to add power.

It has a 16mm thick core and a rough carbon fiber face. The texture of the face is built into the material and not added on top, so it lasts longer. The facing material is the same as what is used on the CRBN and Engage Pursuit paddles.

Attacking

This paddle is all about control, and I found that all of my shots had less power when I used it. All of my serves, drives, and counters were slower. But it had a high control rating and a medium spin rating, which helped him keep control of the point when he was at the net and open up chances to attack. It was a great paddle for doubles. There are so many ways to beat someone besides just being stronger than them. With this paddle, I was able to get better at control and accuracy, which helped me beat my opponents in more ways than just by beating them up.

I found that my rolls from below the net were landing a foot in, while with non-control paddles it's a lot closer to the base line or long more often than I'd like.

In doubles, I don't mind a paddle with less power. But there were times, like when I was putting the ball away with my backhand, when I wished it had more pop than I could get out of it.

The paddle is heavier than usual, and you could feel it. There are pros to a heavier paddle, like making it more stable, but there are also cons, like a slower paddle. It felt slower in hand-to-hand fights and when moving around.

Soft Game and Defense

The soft game was where the Electrum Model E really shined. It's one of the best control paddles I've ever used. I was definitely more accurate on my thirds and as I got closer to the goal. Even though it was long, the paddle was flexible, and its heavier weight helped it stay in place. It makes it easy to move around the net and reduces the number of unintentional mistakes in general. For me, this was what made the paddle stand out. Usually, longer shapes require more skill, but this one was easier to play than, say, the Diadem Warrior or the CRBN 1.

The face doesn't have much life. The paddle slows down the ball, which makes it easier to control its speed and where it goes. It was also easier to block shots and move things back into the kitchen because its face was blank. When I hit a volley-dink, I sometimes leave the ball in the air, but that didn't happen as often with this paddle. This is the best control paddle you can get.

Who is this paddle for?

I think Collin Johns's playstyle is a great fit for this paddle. He is a patient player who enjoys pounding away at the point to wear down his opponents. If your playing style is similar to this you will enjoy the superior touch, control, and reach that this paddle provides. In addition, its stability and forgiveness will allow you to maintain your point position for a longer period of time.

The inability to alter the paddle's dimensions is a drawback. They do not provide a choice of paddle weights and do not provide a selection of paddles with comparable shapes. There's only one possible choice. We regret to inform you that they do not offer a lighter paddle or a handle of a different length.
